Why do so many people see religion as the root of all evil when human nature is the real problem?

It was human nature that caused people to use religion as an excuse to launch the crusades and attack the world trade centers. Do you know what religion really teaches? Love one another as you love yourself! Stop blaming everything on religion instead of on our own dark conscience! And for those who abuse religion, STOP. Amen?
