My 1970 C10 is having carb problems. Im told the valve is swelling due to ethanol. Is this correct?

It all started with my accelerator pedal. It will not release off the floor. THe linkage is fine and the throttle sping is fine. My mechanic says that the ethanol in the fuel is causing the valve to swell. Has anyone else had problems with their older autos and the fuel?
