Music gig? Getting noticed ?

Ok so I'm an 18yo guy who plays guitar and my friend is also 18 and is a girl and she has a great voice (she has been offered a contract for singing once before but she declined it) and she also plays guitar. Were thinking of taking this further than just playing In our rooms. What do we need to know about performing out and about, like pubs for example. How much do we charge ect. And how can we somehow get noticed to take our music further. We are a great duo! We play a whole mixture of covers from the goo goo dolls to the eagles to John butler trio. Any help would be great.
